The team was moved to New York’s Hill Top Park, the highest point on the Manhattan Island, and renamed the Highlanders. In 1913 the Highlanders adopted the Yankee nickname, which was given to them by the New York sports writers. The 1952 season commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Yankees move to New York. In honor of their Golden Anniversary the Yankees wore a patch on the left sleeve of their uniform. Mickey Mantle filled the vacated hole in centerfield as he batted .311 while hitting 23 of his career total 536 homeruns.
