MLB Jerseys – Roger
Maris Jersey Sold for How Much?
The value of Major League Baseball or MLB jerseys is very
subjective. It really depends on the jersey’s condition, the
season or event it represents, and most importantly, the
player. If the MLB jersey is autographed, it can increase the
value tremendously.
But what it all boils down to is this – How much is someone
willing to pay for the jersey!
Here is the perfect example:
A baseball jersey worn by Roger Maris during his
record-breaking 61st home run was sold at auction recently to a
collector. Maris supposedly wore this jersey on October 1, 1961
against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
It was the last game of the season for the Yankees and it
was “DO or Die” for Roger Maris. He had 60 home runs going into
the game and needed one more to beat the Babes’ record. The
rest was history!
Believe it or not, Roger Maris’ MLB jersey sold for
-- $302,000!
This is one of the top five highest bids for a baseball
jersey and the highest for a non Hall of Fame player.
As a side note, one of Maris’ teammates, Mickey Mantle, also
made history with a bat that he used in 1951, his rookie year.
The bat was uncovered in a Tulsa, Oklahoma in the closet of an
avid sports fan. It is the only certified bat from Mantle’s
rookie season.
Selling Price -- $111,551!
MLB jerseys representing a special player, a special time in
his career, or a historic baseball event, can be priceless. So
why not check out that closet or your baseball memorabilia box
for that forgotten MLB souvenir. You may be able to join those
collectors who are cashing in on the sports memorabilia
craze.
