Baseball Apparel – Pretty in
Pink!
The fastest growing segment of buyers of baseball apparel is
women. Over 40% of baseball game attendance these days is
comprised of female fans. This has given the apparel
manufacturers a fantastic opportunity to market “softer”
apparel to a new type of baseball fan.
Teens and young men are still the largest segment of today’s
market for baseball jerseys and hats.
However, women have changed the way the big apparel makers
think about sports fashion. Women no longer want to wear small
men’s jerseys, in less than flattering colors. They are
demanding apparel with a woman’s cut and fashion-oriented
designs.
Many apparel manufacturers have stepped up to the challenge
with baseball jerseys and hats in pink, chartreuse, and other
pastels. A favorite is a pink and white baseball jersey with
fashionable cap sleeves.
Smart baseball apparel marketers have even come out with a
line of team wear including spaghetti-strap tops, shorts, and
pajamas in pastel colors.
Baseball apparel and hats are now an all-day, everyday
clothing option. Kids and young people wear baseball hats and
jerseys all day long, to any type of event. Young women want to
make a fashion statement and today’s sports apparel has
answered the call.
How do the Major League Baseball teams feel about this
trend? Most franchises are thrilled with the increased
marketing opportunities, as long as the fan is wearing their
team logo.
And next year’s hot baseball apparel colors: anything bright
and flashy. The Oakland A’s picks – banana yellow and green
apple. So much for Tradition!
