A
Washington Senators Baseball Hat – Latest Trend Since
D.C. Announced Their New Team
The
Washington D.C. fans finally got their new team.
Now they want a Washington Senators baseball
hat. We can
blame D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams for this new craze for
Senators baseball caps.
The
mayor called a press conference to announce Major League
Baseball’s decision to move the Montreal Expos to Washington.
He wore a Senators replica baseball hat from the 1969
Washington Senators team. Instant
baseball cap mania!
Unfortunately,
Senators baseball hats were in short supply.
The baseball caps had not been produced in any quantities
since the team moved to Texas (as the Rangers) after the 1971
season.
Old-time
baseball hat producers were caught off-guard when the mayor
started the rush for Senators ball caps.
One of the few companies licensed by MLB to produce
Senators baseball hats is Mitchell and Ness.
They
immediately began production of 9,000 Senators hats in an
attempt to meet the sudden demand.
Whatever
Senators baseball hats Mitchell and Ness did have on-hand were
purchased by MLB after the mayor’s announcement.
The savvy MLB marketing guru’s then sold the hats
through their outlets.
The
Senators hat craze may dissipate once the new D.C. team is
named. Speculation
is that the team may adopt the old Senators moniker to
re-connect to the old Washington team.
Only
time will tell!
